ToW Blood in the Sand Rules Pack (147.0 KiB, 97 hits)

Tides of War: Blood in the Sand reserves the right to modify, update, clarify, or change event rules in the interest of making Blood in the
Sand the best event possible. No fundamental rules changes will be made after 8/1/2010. Scenarios will be posted 8/1/2010.

BASIC RULES

• Armies will consist of 2500 points. (updated July 16, 2010)
• The Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition Rules will be used.
• All Games Workshop FAQ’s will be used.
• All models used in your army must be fully painted with three colors minimum and based.
• All models must represent what they are supposed to be according to the rules they are being used under. WYSIWYG is the rule (What you see is what you get). However, miniatures need not be produced by any particular corporation.
• Lists are to be no larger than 2,500 points using the standard restrictions found in each Warhammer Armies book.
• Lists are due no later than August 27th 2010. Late lists will result in a loss of ToW points.
• All released Army Books are permitted.
• Dogs of War armies are permitted using the Regiments of Renown and Dogs of War PDFs.
• Use Ravening Hordes for Chaos Dwarf armies.
• Any cheesy dork planning to bring a tooled up army should think twice. Anyone who does this will be exposed as the punk he is, all in good fun of course. The tournament organizers reserve the right to disallow any army list that is deemed to be terribly unsporting.
• No one is required to like playing against it, or to like you for bringing it. If you bring the pain, keep your gob shut when people cast their bad game votes accordingly…
• Special/Unique/Named Characters may be NOT fielded.
• A separate printed army list is required for the judges.
• Tides of War Blood in the Sand Tournament Judges’ and Officers’ rulings are final and arguments or poor conduct by players will not be tolerated. Tides of War Blood in the Sand reserves the right to remove players from the tournament with no refunds allowed.

SCORING

Scoring at the Tides of War GT will focus on four elements of play in order to determine who goes home with the prizes. Every player will be scored on the basis of their ability to play the game, play a fun game, paint their army, and follow the rules of the tournament.

Players can score a maximum of 230 points, broken down as follows:

Battle Points: 100 total points.
Sportsmanship Points: 60 total points.
Army Points: 60 total points.
ToW Points : 10 total points.
Total Possible Points: 230

BATTLE POINTS (100 Points)
Maximum Battle Points will be 20 points per game for a total of 100 points

Win: 16 Points
Draw: 8 Points
Loss: 4 Points
+4 Objective Point modifiers.

In every game played at the Tides of War GT, one needs to beat their opponent by 300+ victory points as defined in normal victory conditions specified in the main rule book in order to win a game. In addition to winning each game, players will be able to score 4 additional battle points by achieving the objective defined in the scenario. Only one player will be able to achieve the objective in each game.

SPORTSMANSHIP (60 Points)
Sportsmanship is about having a good game. There are a thousand things that can make a game good or bad, and no one can list them all. It is very hard to determine how good or how bad a game was. It’s very subjective and different to everyone. However, it is easy to tell if a game was good or bad and pretty much everyone can agree on it, so for the Tide of War GT, sportsmanship will focus on if the game was good or bad .

BASE POINTS
We assume that everyone coming to the Tides of War Grand Tournament will be a good sport and because the average score is 45, we will give you those 45 points on credit because we think you will keep them.
Start with 45 Points. After each game the players will have one question on the score sheet which asks, “Did your opponent’s behavior and/or army selection honestly make this a bad game for you?” If someone receives a yes then they will have to give back some of those points given on credit.

1 bad game ‐3
2 bad games ‐9
3 bad games ‐18
4 bad games ‐32
5 bad games ‐45

These are not cumulative modifiers. Only the lowest applicable modifier will be applied. Unlike a simple linear system, each vote is not worth the same. Everyone might have one bad game. But when someone is rude over 4 games there is something going on and it should cost them more, and under our scoring system it will cost them much more.

No one should be worried about being dinged out of spite which is so prevalent in other systems because this system focuses on the consensus of all five of ones opponents. While one bad vote will cost you points it cannot not knock you out of the running because of its small worth. However, when someone scores poorly over several games it is usually their own fault and they deserve what they get.

RED CARD – Judges will be empowered to hand out a Red Card to any player who acts in an egregious manner that is unbecoming to an INDY GT. Each Red Card will act as an EXTRA bad game mark.

BEST SPORT VOTE POINTS
At the end of the tournament everyone shall vote for their best opponent. The question will read, “I certify that ______ provided me with the best game of the weekend. His attitude and army selection were outstanding.” As with bad game votes, the value of each best game vote goes up dramatically the more of them you get:

1 best game 1
2 best games 3
3 best games 6
4 best games 10
5 best games 15

The remaining Base Points (after bad game deductions) will be added to the Best Sport Votes to determine the total sportsmanship points.

Army Composition
Composition of your army is a direct reflection on your attitude towards your opponent. Composition is the sportsmanship you display before the minis hit the table. As such, in general traditional notions of “Composition” have been combined with Sportsmanship into a single score.

The bottom line is whether you had fun. If you had fun, mark good game and move on no matter what he put on the table. Please do not mark bad games solely because you dislike army X or combo Y, or have a philosophical objection about armies with more than 10 power dice or something like that. Approach each game with an open mind, wanting to enjoy that game, regardless of the opponent’s list.

That said, if the opponent was nice and played by the rules, but his list was such that the game was truly not fun to play, then by all means mark it as a bad game. Please save the bad game votes for games that really felt like root canal. We say please, because it’s your vote, not ours. We are not going to be the arbiter of whether anyone had fun or did not.

ARMY SCORE (60 Points)

Painting accounts for 45 of the maximum 60 Army Score points. The remaining points are the reward for garnering “fluff bunny” votes.

Paint scoring—One judge, One Check list, every army scored between games. No one will have judges looking over their shoulder during a game or going through dead pile to score their painting. You put a big effort in painting your army so we will make the same effort in scoring it.

Fluff bunny—Each player’s score sheet will contain a blank for them to choose one (1) of their opponents as the “fluff bunniest”. Here are a few criteria for your consideration in choosing the “fluff bunny”:

• Which army required the most skillful decisions, as opposed to those which “play themselves” or whose statistical strengths or special rules can cover up bad decisions.
• Which army avoided the most obvious and strongest options in its army book.
• Which army was most prone to bad rolls—i.e. most prone to panic, fear, terror, animosity, and similar luck beyond the player’s control.
• Which army is least likely to contend for Best General in an average player’s hands.

Since everyone is required to pick a fluff bunny, but not everybody may have actually played a true fluff bunny, points are awarded for fluff bunny votes as follows:

1 fluff bunny votes 1
2 fluff bunny votes 3
3 fluff bunny votes 5
4 fluff bunny votes 10
5 fluff bunny votes 15

PAINTING CHECKLIST

Although the points shown below can be added to 46 points, there is a cap of 40 points. This is to ensure that well‐painted armies are not penalized by a lack of conversions, and those well‐converted (but perhaps averagely painted) armies are still in the hunt.

Painting (worth up to 35 Points)
Check One:
• Army is fully painted, but only to the three‐color standard of basecoating. (10 Points)
• Army is beyond fully painted, additional steps beyond the three‐color standard. (15 Points)

Check All That Apply to Bulk (80%) of Army:
• Painting is Uniform: Not a mix schemes, styles and looks. (1 Point)
• Clean Basecoat Colors: Base colors are painted neatly. (1 Point)
• Details: Details are painted such as eyes, buckles and jewelry. (1 Point)
• Clean Details: Details are painted well (clean, have highlights). (2 Points)
• Hand‐Painted Details: Details (that are well executed) have been added such as unit markings, banner artwork, dirt on clothes. (2 Points)
• Artistic: Banners, markings, and details are hand painted to an incredible degree! (2 Points)
• Discernable Highlights/Shading: Drybrushing, lining, shading, inking, etc. (not required to be clean) (1 Point)
• Clean Highlights: Lines are neat, drybrushing is appropriate, inking is controlled and not sloppy. (2 Points)
• Layers of Highlights: More than one layer of highlight, which may include shading, highlights over inking, blending, etc.(2 Points)
• Beyond Basics: Highlights have been blended, shaded, or layered well—beyond the basic highlighting techniques of drybrushing and inking. (2 Points)
• Masterful Blending: Highlights have been masterfully blended, shaded, or layered. (2 Points)
• Overall Appearance: Overall appearance is amazing! Everything works great together to create an awesome scene. (2 Points)

Basing (worth up to 5 Points)
Check All That Apply to Bulk (80%) of Army:
• Based/Detailed: Bases have basing materials (flock/sand/tiles) or details painted on them. (1 Point)
• Extra Basing: The bases have multiple basing materials (rocks/grass), extra details painted on them. Basing is done very well. (1 Point)
• Highlights: Bases have highlighting (shading/drybrushing) (1 Point)
• Special Details: These are extra details on the larger bases (helmets, skulls, animals, building rubble, etc.) (2 Points)

Conversions (worth up to 4 Points)
Check One for conversions that are appropriate and well executed:
• Minimal: The army has some elementary conversions (head and weapon swaps, arm rotations) or a couple interesting swaps. (1 Point)
• Minor: Units have multi‐kit conversions including head and weapon swaps. This is a more than a few models such as a unit. (2 Points)
• Major: The army has some difficult conversions that use things such as putty, plastic card, drilling, sawing, minor sculpts, etc. This could also apply to the entire army having very well done multi‐kit conversions (see above). (3 Points)
• Extreme: The army has some extreme conversions, which could be a scratch built conversion or sculpt of an entire model, a large amount of models with difficult conversions (see above), or the entire army is extremely converted. (4 Points)

Other (worth up to 2 Points)
Check All That Apply to Bulk (80%) of Army:
• Display Base: Basic based & highlighted or detailed display base. (1 Point)
• Something Special: There is something above and beyond about a model’s painting, the display base, a conversion, or the basing. (1 Point)

BONUS PAINTING (5 Points)
This is a Bonus Criteria and is not part of the 40/46 point Painting Checklist.
• Did you paint your army yourself? (5 Points)

ToW POINTS (10 Points)

Everybody starts out with 10 TOW points for free—yay! Submission of late army lists, failure to finish games on time, failure to show up for a game on time and other behavior that makes life harder for us organizers or for your fellow players will result in loss of TOW points. Get your list in on time, start your games on time, end your games on time, and follow what few rules we have, and you get 10 easy points.
